Photographer Lambros Papanikolatos guided ‘AS SEEN AS POSSIBLE’, a five-day workshop at the Department of Photography and also lectured for the entire Faculty as part of the mentoring programme from 20 to 24 March 2023. Both his lecture and workshop were focused on the topic of the digital age and its effect on the production, sharing, and promotion of works of art. The workshop was organised as an intensive survey of the areas that an artist needs to know to be able to share and promote their work with the target audience. It pointed to the general principles, procedures, and techniques in support of the photographic work on the art market and contemporary art institutions. 

The participants were invited to understand and analyse the practical knowledge important for understanding the system of art market, and a collective discussion attempted to define the role and the influence of people who work in the environment of curatorship, art collecting, art critique, museum management, and gallery operation. 

Lambros Papanikolatos graduated in marketing communication, advertising and multimedia in Greece and the Netherlands and took a graduate programme in photography in Prague (Academy of Performing Arts’ FAMU). For his master’s programme, he obtained a scholarship from the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation (1999–2001) and a Fulbright Study/Research Award in New York City (2003–2005).  

He represented Greece at the Biennial of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean in 1999 and won an award at the international photography festival, Les Rencontres d’Arles in France in 2000. His works are part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Texas. Lambros works in the field of culture production, curatorship and communication, and research and development of training programmes. He has collaborated with photography festivals such as Houston FotoFest, Festival of Light, Thessaloniki Photobiennale, etc. and co-organised masterclasses in Greece involving internationally acclaimed artists (Antoine d’Agata, Michael Ackerman, J.H. Engstrom et al.).  

From 2016 to 2018, Lambros was a teacher in photography programmes for adults at the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA – ELKE). Since 2018, he has been a professor in a master’s programme at the Middlesex University in the UK in collaboration with AKTO College. Since June 2022, he has been the new Head of the AKTO Bachelor Arts (Hons) programme in photography sponsored by the Middlesex University.
