Mentoring Programme

From December 11 to 12, 2024 the Czech-British-American director Jan Pinkava conducted a mentoring programme at FAMU. Students had the opportunity to get to know the personality and work of this significant world creator of Czech origin, who has received numerous awards for his work.

Pinkava is primarily known for his 3D animated films, having worked for Pixar. Together with Brad Bird, he co-directed the film Ratatouille (2007), and for the film Geri's Game (1998), he won an Oscar for Best Animated Short Film. He currently leads the Animationsinstitut at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg.

The students of FAMU and especially of the Department of Animatd Film had an exceptional opportunity to meet a renowned director whose work they highly respect. The presentation of films and the subsequent lecture titled Agency and Storytelling in Animation: What happens when the audience makes choices by Professor Pinkava was an inspiration for them, bringing many unusual new stimuli for reflection, a new angle of thinking about the narrative line of the film. The MA students also took the opportunity of individual consultations with Professor Pinkava with great interest, gaining valuable advice and suggestions for thinking about their films.

The AMU project, Mentoring Programme – Jan Pinkava, reg. no. 0411000009, is implemented with financial co-financing from the European Union through the National Recovery Plan and the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
