FAMU OFFERS STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 76TH BERLINALE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, WHICH WILL BE HELD FROM 12TH TO 22ND FEBRUARY 2026.

The Berlinale IFF and the European Film Market (EFM) are one of the two most important European film events. They consist of several interconnected activities, in addition to the film festival itself, the European Film Market, the Berlinale Co-Production Market and others.

The Berlinale presents around 200 films of all genres, lengths and formats every year, mostly in international or European premieres. Under the banner of Berlinale Pro, there is the European Film Market, which consists of national exhibitions and screenings of films offered for sale, the Berlinale Co-Production Market, where producers submit their projects and look for co-production partners, and the Berlinale Talents training program for future film professionals.

In connection with the festival, the offer includes two calls:

  • 5 places at the first BERLINALE FILM SCHOOL SUMMIT (February 17, 2026)
  • 8 student accreditations

BERLINALE FILM SCHOOL SUMMIT

The first annual international networking and educational platform for early-career film students. 75-100 expected participants from leading film schools around the world. An opportunity for new connections and partnerships.

Program OFFERS:

  • exclusive, narrated access to the European Film Market (EFM), Berlinale Co-Production Market and World Cinema Fund (WCF)
  • meetings with distributors, sales agents and industry professionals
  • introduction to international financing and co-production models
  • lectures and Q&As with emerging producers and directors
  • discussions on career paths, first projects and global production realities
  • workshops, panel discussions and networking events

5 SELECTED STUDENTS WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO OBTAIN:

  • participation in the Berlinale Film School Summit – 17.2.2026
  • accreditation for the entire festival
  • application fee is fully covered by FAMU, no other financial support is offered

THE CALL IS OPEN FOR:

  • students before starting their professional career currently enrolled in the 2nd year of a master's degree in the fields of
    • Production
    • Directing Cinema and Digital Media
    • Documentary Film
    • Film Directing (Czech)
  • students with an international outlook and an interest in cross-border cooperation
  • students who have completed at least one short film screened at the international festival OR whose film was created as part of an international co-production
  • student has participated in the mandatory presentation of joint exercise topics at FAMU in accordance with Dean's Decree No. 9/2025

HOW TO APPLY

  • by 20.11.2025 apply via the ONLINE FORM BERLINALE FILM SCHOOL SUMMIT (accessible from school email)
  • upload the required attachments via the form:
    • motivation letter
    • portfolio including information on film screenings at foreign festivals or foreign co-productions
  • the results will be announced on the faculty website by 27.11.2025 and the selected students will be informed by email.
  • the selection will be made by the management of the relevant departments with regard to representative representation among all departments
    • Production – 2 students
    • Directing Cinema and Digital Media – 1 student
    • Documentary Film – 1 student
    • Film Directing (Czech) – 1 student

STUDENT ACCREDITATION

NOTE: Students can only be accredited to the Berlinale through their university once during their studies; if you have already been to the Berlinale as part of the school challenge in previous years, the offer does not apply to you.

8 SELECTED STUDENTS WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO OBTAIN:

  • code for purchasing student accreditation (96 EUR)
    • the student accreditation code must be used by 31. 12. 2025, after this date it is no longer valid without the possibility of renewal
  • support for participation in the festival in the amount of 4000 CZK
    • Note: the support compensates for the cost of accreditation and includes a contribution to transport and/or accommodation
    • It will be paid back in the form of a scholarship in the period from 15 January to 6 March 2026 against documents for payment of accreditation, transport and accommodation

STUDENTS APPLYING FOR SUPPORT TO PARTICIPATE IN THE BERLINALE MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:

  • students enrolled in any accredited program from the 2nd year of bachelor's studies (i.e. interrupted students cannot apply);
  • none of the study subjects (compulsory, compulsory electives, elective subjects and modules) enrolled in the previous year were graded worse than "C" or "passed"; an exception may be a maximum of two modules rated as "not passed";
  • all exams passed on the regular date, i.e. none of the exams were passed on the make-up date (credits do not have make-up dates, all must be graded in the regular exam period)
  • student has participated in the mandatory presentation of joint exercise topics at FAMU in accordance with Dean's Decree No. 9/2025

HOW TO APPLY

  • by 20.11.2025 apply via ONLINE FORM (accessible from school email)
  • upload the required attachments from the form:
    • consent from the head of the department (e.g. screenshot of confirmation email, etc.)
    • motivation letter
  • results will be announced on the faculty website by December 1, 2025 and selected students will be informed by email
  • The selection will be decided by a committee consisting of the dean, vice-dean for external relations and development and a representative of the international department.

Note: Since it is possible to support a smaller number of students than the number of accreditations, it is possible to obtain an additional 10 accreditations without the possibility of additional financial support. If you are also interested in this option, please indicate it in the form.
