CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR THE POSITION OF ACADEMIC STAFF MEMBER FOR THE PH.D. STUDY PROGRAM AT FAMU

The Dean of the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (hereinafter “FAMU”) announces a call for applications for the position of an academic staff member for the Ph.D. study program at FAMU and Department for Theory and History of Audiovision. 

The selection procedure is governed by the Selection Procedure Regulations for Filling Academic Staff Positions at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague of 19 January 2017 (Article 1, Section 3), in conjunction with Section 77(2) of Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on Higher Education Institutions, as amended and in force. 

 

Work Responsibilities: 

  • Pastoral and professional support for Ph.D. students pertaining to the module taught 

  • Student mentoring related to teaching practice 

  • Developing teaching concepts within Ph.D. program 

  • Participation in teaching at the Department of Audiovisual Theory and History upon agreement 

  • Consultation of theoretical parts of Ph.D. dissertations (per the applicant's expertise)

Essential Criteria: 

  • Ph.D. in Film Studies required 

  • Minimum of 10 years teaching experience at the university level  

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience designing and delivering pedagogical modules of film, humanities and creative arts 

  • Teaching practice directed to individual students needs 

  • Commitment to student-oriented learning 

  • Track record of international peer-reviewed academic publishing in the area of film history and/or theory 

  • An active research agenda in film history and/or theory 

  • Excellent organizational skills and work-ethic, independent capacity for unsupervised self-motivation, and attention to detail 

  • Desirable criteria: Experience in teaching Academic Writing at Ph.D. level  

Expected commencement date: 1 October 2026 or as agreed 

 

Workload and salary conditions: 

  • 0,3 full-time equivalent (FTE) 

  • Salary conditions are governed by the internal salary regulations of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.

  • Copies of certificates of the highest completed education 

  • CV 

  • Track record of publication and research activities 

  • Motivation letter 

  • General outline of the teaching concept for the course “Field-specific didactics and pedagogical skills for teaching at universities” 

 

Failure to submit any of the required documents will result in the exclusion of the applicant from the selection procedure.

The selection process will take the form of an interview with the selection committee on 16th June 2026 at the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts (AMU), Smetanovo nábř. 2, 116 65 Prague 1, 3rd floor, Dean’s Office Room U7

The selection process will be conducted in English.
