THE ACADEMIC SENATE OF FAMU JOINS THE STATEMENT “THE SEMESTER DOES NOT BEGIN IN GAZA”

Prague, October 9, 2025 – At its meeting today, the Academic Senate of FAMU adopted a resolution drawing attention to the fact that around 90,000 Palestinian students are unable to study because Israeli attacks have destroyed university buildings in the Gaza Strip:

“As the new semester begins, we commemorate the events of October 7, 2023, when a massacre of innocent Israeli civilians took place. For almost two years, we have been witnessing the disproportionate reaction of the State of Israel against the population of the Gaza Strip and other Palestinian territories. The Academic Senate of FAMU expresses its concern over violations of human rights and joins the call of the Initiative for a Critical Academy (IZKA), which seeks to draw attention to the fact that, unlike in the Czech Republic, for students and teachers in Gaza ‘the semester does not begin’, because over the past two years university infrastructure has been destroyed.”
