TEACHER AT THE DEPARTMENT OF SOUND AT FAMU AND COMPOSER PAVEL KOPECKÝ HAS PASSED AWAY

With deep sorrow, we have received the news that long-time teacher at the Department of Sound, composer Associate Professor MgA. Pavel Kopecký, has passed away.

Pavel Kopecký devoted himself to playing the piano and cello from an early age. He studied composition at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (HAMU) under Václav Dobiáš and drew musical inspiration from summer composition and conducting courses abroad. His work was recognized in numerous domestic and international competitions. He had been teaching at the Department of Sound at FAMU since 1980, pioneering the instruction of electroacoustic sound creation. He shared his knowledge of music history and theory with several generations of sound designers and other students alike. Every year, he actively participated in entrance exams as well as final assessments for both bachelor's and master's studies. He was the author of several scholarly publications (e.g., Fundamentals of Electronic Sound and Its Creative Processing). His pedagogical work extended beyond FAMU to include the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory.

We will miss his kindness, reliability, and sense of humor. Above all, he was a good person and a friend. May his memory be honored.

The final farewell will take place on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 3:20 p.m. in the Small (Baxa) Ceremony Hall of the crematorium in Prague–Strašnice.
