RESULTS: FAMU'S PARTICIPATION IN CANNES 2023

A total of 46 applications arrived in response to the call for participation. The panel involving the Dean of FAMU Andrea Slováková, Vice-Dean for International Affairs David Čeněk, Head of FAMU Studio Ondřej Šejnoha, and Head of Registrar’s Office Eliška Pičmanová made the choice based on the following criteria:

  • compliance with the requirements of the call (e.g. timely submissions, studying in an accredited programme)
  • quality and rate of specificity of the application and submitted material
  • academic results

The list of the selected students in an alphabetical order is as follows:

The substitutes will be approached if any of the selected students cannot participate.
The selected students will be approached by e-mail with information on the particulars of organisation.
Every participant will get special accreditation to access the following activities (see below).

The Faculty pays for the accommodation in the place of the festival (from 18 to 25 May 2023) and the trip (Prague–Cannes and back). The transport mode will be determined during an organisational meeting. We will also provide organisational support for meetings with film industry professionals (on an individual basis).

The representatives of the Cannes IFF have confirmed the following programme:

  • Access to the programme in the Un Certain regard competition section
  • Access to the Cannes Classics screenings
  • Access to the Special Screenings section
  • Access to the Séances du lendemain section (this section includes films from the In Competition section and films featured outside the competition, screened one day after the official premiere)
  • Access to the Marché du film (film market)
  • Two meetings with film professionals organised by the Chanel Foundation for film school students to offer opportunities for networking;
  • Free access to masterclasses and lectures delivered by film professionals as part of The Higher Technical Commission for Sound and Images (La Commission supérieure technique de l’image et du son - CST);
  • Meetings with other film schools involved in the same cooperation with the Festival de Cannes;
  • Access to the programme of the Critics’ Week parallel competition section;
  • Other activities are being discussed.

The trip is organised with the support of the French Institute in Prague.
