NEW VIDEO COLLECTIONS: THEATRE, DANCE, ETHNOGRAPHIC FILMS

The FAMU, HAMU and DAMU Libraries are now making several databases available from the Alexander Street platform. These are accessible to all staff and students across AMU.

 

1. Ethnographic Video Online: Volume IV.

Provides a space for visual anthropologists of today to showcase and disseminate their most compelling work. With a focus on curating award-winning titles from contemporary ethnographic film festivals, this newly released content will capture students’ attention by connecting them with topics familiar to their own time and place.

 

2. Dance in Video

These collections showcase performances from the greatest dance companies and performers worldwide (traditional ballet, hip hop, street dance, and modern dance). It contains performance and rehearsal footage, instructional materials, documentaries and interviews with performers and choreographers.
Access is valid until the end of 2026.

 

3. Dance Studies Collection

The collection presents the historical context of 20th and 21st century dance through 150,000 pages of exclusive photographs, correspondence, magazines, dance notation, and reference material.

 

4. Theatre in Video

The collections provide access to the best-known names in drama as well as works by and about often overlooked groups, including African Americans, women, and a range of world cultures. They include video of live performances, audio recordings, previously unpublished works from acclaimed playwrights, film scripts, reference materials, photographs, performance posters, playbills, etc.

 

5. Performance Design Archive Online

The comprehensive, international collection covers all aspects of theatre production design, from the 17th century through to the present day, including scenic and set design, lighting design, sound design, costume design, and makeup. Bringing together essential books and periodicals, archival material, and specially commissioned instructional videos, the collection will cover design concepts for a broad range of performance types, including dance, theatre, opera, and music.

 

6. National Theatre Collection

Through a collaboration with the U.K.'s National Theatre, this collection offers a range of digital performance resources never previously seen outside of the National Theatre’s archive. Includes exclusive digitized archival materials such as prompt scripts, and costume designs.
