INVITATION: SPECIAL SCREENING OF KARU SÜDA

The co-production film Karu Süda (The Heart of the Bear) premiered on October 25, 2001, in Prague. Twenty-five years later, it returns to Prague for a very special screening on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at the Ponrepo Cinema, with the film’s Estonian director, Arvo Iho, in attendance. In 2001, the film received the European Film Award for Best Cinematographer.

The Czech co-production’s contribution consisted of post-production work; the film was developed in Finland (Estonia did not have its own film laboratories even in 2000), the negative was brought to Czech Television (ČT), and the complete sound post-production was then carried out in Prague. This was carried out at the VIRTUÁL studio under the direction of sound engineer Pavel Dvořák, and distribution copies were produced at Czech Television.

The film, based on the novel of the same name by Nikolai Baturin, was successfully screened at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, followed by a run in Czech theaters, and was later broadcast on Czech Television. The film was also screened at international festivals in the U.S. and Moscow.

The program will be presented in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Estonia in the Czech Republic and the Czech-Estonian Club, z.s.
