FAMU IS HOSTING THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON COMICS AND FILM

How does space influence what we see, read, and tell? And what do comic book panels, film images, architecture, cities, and the universe have in common?

FAMU is organizing the international conference COMICS & FILM: A SPACE ODYSSEY on August 20–21, 2026.

This two-day international event will bring together film, comics, visual arts, and spatial research through keynote lectures, expert panels, artist talks, discussions, and meetings with participants from the Czech Republic and abroad. Guests will include Bettina Egger, Elizabeth Allyn Woock, and Pavel Kořínek, as well as numerous other researchers and artists from Europe and the U.S.

Come see comics and film from a slightly different perspective—as worlds in which space is not merely a backdrop but actively shapes the story. Admission to the conference is free.

You can join online:

This conference is organized as part of the project “Off-screen Space in Comics: Comparison with Fiction Film” with the support of a specific university research grant provided by the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports of the Czech Republic.
