The FAMU International Department is organizing a memorial for Beth Lazroe, a photographer, educator, and colleague who passed away in November of last year. The event will take place in classroom U1 on Friday, June 2nd.
In this context, we invite you to an exhibition held in honor of this significant artist: Beth Lazroe: Activism, Familiarity, and Agenda, which will run until June 4th.
Beth Lazroe: Activism, Familiarity, and Agenda is a modest attempt to honour Beth Lazroe as an activist, a photographer, a pedagogue, and above all as a bold and dedicated humanist and an irreplaceable friend. The numerous facets of her life reflect her dedication to work for the benefit of equity and human rights and the uncompromising care that she had towards others.
Whether Beth’s photographs are portraits of children, stills of demonstrators for women’s rights, or intimate memories among friends, her character and outspoken agenda is always present and lives on in this body of work that she committed herself to for more than five decades.
Since 1995 she has been lecturing in the School of Film and Television, Academy of Music and Art (FAMU), Prague, which awarded her MA and published her textbook, Photography as Visual Communication: a Curriculum (originally published 1998, reissued 2012).
