PHDR. david čeněk

Dean

PhDr. David Čeněk graduated from the Faculty of Education at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice and studied Film Studies at the Faculty of Arts at Charles University in Prague. He is an expert advisor to the State Cinematography Fund and has been a member of the Media and Audiovisual Department's committee at the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. He has collaborated or collaborates as a program dramaturge, translator, and interpreter with numerous Czech festivals (e.g., Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Febiofest, Summer Film School, Zlín Film Festival, Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival). Since 2005, he has been working as an assistant at the Department of Film Studies at the Faculty of Arts at Charles University. He is a co-author of publications on cinematography (Jean-Luc Godard, Chris Marker, Alain Resnais, Robert Bresson, etc.). As part of the international project CINED, he represented the Czech Republic and contributed to the introduction of film education in the Czech environment. Since 2020, he has served as the Vice Dean for International Affairs at FAMU, where he primarily focused on developing a mentoring programme. Since May 2024, David Čeněk has been the Dean of FAMU.
