Jan Bernard is the guarantor of the CAS bachelor’s programme and the Game Design master’s programme. He graduated from Charles University’s Faculty of Arts (1974) and worked as a supervisor for Studio Y, organiser and supervisor for the Czechoslovak Film Clubs, and researcher at the Czechoslovak Film Institute. In 1987, he joined the Faculty of Arts as an educator and led the Film Studies Department and then the Department of Theatre and Film Studies following November l989. He was the Dean of FAMU in l993–1999 and still lectures at the school today. He was also a lecturer at the NYU and the Metropolitan University in Prague. He co-wrote the books Co je divadlo (SPN, 1983) and Malý labyrint filmu (Albatros, 1988), authored the monographs Evald Schorm: Odvahu pro všední den (Primus, 1994), Z šedé zóny (2009), Jan Němec, enfant terrible české nové vlny (2014), Jan Němec Forever (2016), Václav Havel a film. Scénáře, analýzy a úvahy z let 1957–1989, and Václav Zykmund: Filmy neznámé a zapomenuté (2023). He is a member of FITES, Czech Film and Television Academy, the editorial board of Film a doba, the Association of Czech Film Critics, Czech Society for Film Studies (CEFS) and the Research and Artistic Board of the Film and TV Faculty of the University of Performing Arts in Bratislava.
