Dr. Jindřiška Bláhová is a film historian, lecturer, critic and assistant professor at FAMU, where she heads the Department of Audiovisual History and Theory. Between 2021-2025 she was the head of the Centre for Doctoral Studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (AMU). She earned BA in Journalism and MA in media studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University. She received her PhD in Film Studies at the University of East Anglia, United Kingdon and Charles University in Prague, where she worked as an assistant professor between 2014 – 2021. She is the Chair of the Czech Film Critics Association, an Executive Co-Producer of the Czech Film Critics Awards and an editor-in-chief of Cinepur.

In her research and teaching, she specializes in the history of film festivals, marketing and distribution, film culture during socialism and post-socialist transformation. In addition to an extensive publishing track record in Czech her studies have been published internationally in Historical Journal of Film, Radio and Television, Film History, Studies in European Cinema and Post Script and in book anthologies. As a guest editor she prepared several thematic issues of the Czech academic film journal Illuminace (Post-Feminism, Banned Films in East-European Socialist Cinemas and Film Festivals).

She is the editor of a collective monograph on the pre-1989 histories of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival Interweaving Worlds. International Film Festival Karlovy Vary during the Cold War (National Film Archive 2023), to which she contributed three chapters and which is the resuld of research supported by the Czech Science Foundation. She is currently leading a Comfort Media research team and is the primary investigator on the Czech Science Foundation supported three-year project Transforming Socialist Festival: Cultural, Economic, and Institutional History of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival after 1989.
