JINDŘIŠKA BLÁHOVÁ

Dr. Jindřiška Bláhová is a film historian, lecturer, critic and assistant professor at FAMU, where she heads the Department of Audiovisual History and Theory. She is also the head of the Centre for Doctoral Studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (AMU) and the editor-in-chief of the film magazine Cinepur. She studied journalism and media studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University. She received her PhD from the University of East Anglia (Great Britain) and Charles University in Prague, where she worked as an assistant professor between 2014-21. She is the Chair of the Czech Film Critics Association and an Executive Co-Producer of the Czech Film Critics Awards.

In her research and teaching, she specializes in the history of film festivals, film culture during socialism and post-socialist transformation, and the history of marketing and distribution. Her studies have been published internationally in Historical Journal of Film, Radio and TelevisionFilm HistoryStudies in European Cinema and Post Script. As a guest editor she prepared several thematic issues of the Czech academic film journal Illuminace (Post-Feminism, Banned Films in East-European Socialist Cinemas and Film Festivals). She wrote a number of book chapters and edited a book on the pre-1989 histories of the Karlovy Vary International Film  Interweaving WorldsInternational Film Festival Karlovy Vary during the Cold War (National Film Archive), to which she contributed three chapters. She is currently leading a FAMU Comfort Media research team and continues her research on the IFF Karlovy Vary.
