LEA PETŘÍKOVÁ, Ph.D.

INTERNAL lecturer

Lea Petříková has been affiliated with FAMU since 2025, initially as a postdoctoral researcher and later as an assistant professor. In both her research and teaching, she focuses on psychedelic film and culture, while also engaging with other marginal formats such as experimental and cult cinema. She completed her master’s studies at the Center for Audiovisual Studies at FAMU and at the Supermedia Studio at UMPRUM. In 2024, she earned her Ph.D. at FAMU in Prague, where she defended a dissertation examining films produced by the pharmaceutical company Sandoz. She has also published on this topic in the journals Iluminace and Cahiers d'histoire du Cnam.

Her doctoral project received the first prize of the Jacques Derrida Prize, awarded by the French Embassy in Prague in 2020 for outstanding young research in the humanities. In 2024, she was also awarded the FAMU Prize for the Best Diploma or Dissertation Thesis. She regularly participates in international conferences, including the two largest global conferences on psychedelic studies in 2025: Breaking Convention in Exeter and Psychedelic Science in Denver.

Petříková also brings the topic of psychedelic film into non-academic contexts. In March 2026, she organized and moderated the Psychedelic Film Forum at FAMUFEST, focusing on psychedelic cinema in the Czech context. She has collaborated with the Czech Psychedelic Society on a screening series of Sandoz psychedelic films, with the Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival on the “Into History” section, and with the Brussels Cinematek for a screening of Images du monde visionnaire. She also has teaching experience from Anglo-American University in Prague, where she led the course Contemporary Art Scene in 2024.

In addition to her academic work, Lea is active as a filmmaker. Her feature debut If I Ever Lose My Eyes premiered in 2023 in the “Czech Joy” section at the Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival. In the same year, she was selected for the prestigious Berlinale Talents program. Since 2023, she has also worked as a programmer for the One World International Human Rights Film Festival.
