The Center for Audiovisual Studies' degree programs are based on an understanding of the moving image as an interdisciplinary phenomenon present in myriad art forms and found in numerous settings including screenings, exhibitions, presentations in public space and on digital platforms. The program places equal emphasis on artistic expression and theoretical framing and their mutuality.
Students trace the history of audiovisual media throughout their studies and engage in theoretical reflections on the trajectory of its continuing development. The program covers a spectrum of subjects including the history and theory of cinema, fine art and technology, and digital arts.
Students have the freedom to work across a broad range of media and forms. Emphasis is placed on artistic expression and the acquisition of professional skills associated with the moving image. CAS undergraduate works are developed over a one-year period and take the form of films, videos, installations, performances, digital-born pieces for online platforms, and application development.
The Bachelor degree program is focused on the acquisition of skills in independent filmaking sound design, 3D graphics, and audiovisual presentation. Theory courses are focused on comprehensive knowledge of the history of film, fine art, media theory, and its cutural and sociopolitical contextualization.
The Master’s degree program is centered around an artistic research project with emphasis on the development of creative expertise in the field of film and video production. Conceived as a continuation of the CAS FAMU Bachelor degree program, the Master’s program is also open to graduates of AMU’s other departments, as well as to undergraduate degree holders from other institutions.
The curriculum is comprised of classes taught in Czech and English.
