Andrew Fisher: On the Scales of the Photographic (Guest lecture KF and CAS); U1
This talk introduces Andrew Fisher's new research project at FAMU,which investigates the many different and contested meanings the term scale takes on in the contemporary photographic context. The talk will explore the central questions asked in this research and, with a focus on photographic examples, it will address the question: how and why are questions of scale crucial for an understanding of contemporary photographic images and the world they help to form.
Dr Andrew Fisher is a research fellow at FAMU and Principle Investigator of the Prague based collaborative research project, ‘Scale, Measure and Proportion in Contemporary Visual Cultures’. He is founding editor of the peer-reviewed journal Philosophy of Photography (2010-present) and, between 2008 & 2019, was Lecturer in the Department of Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths, University of London. His recent research focuses on the significance of scale for historical and contemporary forms of photography.
