Greetings from Calgary, Canada, and the Calgary International Film Festival (CIFF). My name is Jennifer Cecconi and I am a Lead Programmer here at our festival.
I’ve come across a number of films from the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and invite you to submit some of your strongest works (maximum 5) by your students to our festival. The Tenth Annual CIFF will take place from September 25 to October 4, 2009. Depending on your theatrical plans for the film in Canada, DVD release schedule or possible broadcast dates, I would very much like to consider some films from your school this year for CIFF.
If you are interested in submitting some films for consideration please send us a screener DVD for each of the films at your earliest convenience. The submission form and guidelines are available online at www.calgaryfilm.com . Please ignore the submission fee. This is for non-requested films only. Use the unique Discount Code “mavericks10” when filling out the Submission Form to avoid paying the submission fee. Please submit a form for each film you want us to consider (maximum of 5 films please)
The Calgary International Film Festival is considered by MovieMaker magazine (April 2009) as “one of the top 25 film festivals worth the entry fee”. We think so too! Make us a priority after the Worldwide Short Film Festival or the limelight of Toronto International Film Festival. Our delegate base, size of awards, and overall regional culture is growing in leaps and bounds and we want you to be a part of our efforts to make this an international destination point for filmmakers here in Canada. Shorts, documentaries, and feature length narratives from every region of the globe are all welcome. In addition to our regular programming and awards (which include Best of Live Action Short Film, Best Animated Short, Best Short Documentary, and Best of Alberta), we are launching an Official Competition this season, Mavericks, for emerging feature length filmmakers. With the generous support of American Express, this juried, competitive series will reward someone with $25,000 for their signature style and unique cinematic voice. Original isn’t easy, for filmmakers or festivals, and we want to champion that fighting, independent spirit.
