It was only a matter of time before the professional and pedagogic potential of FAMU International and our daily experience with accommodating international students’ needs transformed into a degree programme offering all of the traditional opportunities that make FAMU one of the world’s paramount film schools, and resulting in an expansion of the theoretical and hands-on study offerings for students into a prestigious Master’s Degree follow-up programme in English.
This naturally evolution of FAMU International gained specific contours on Fall 2008 when the first, carefully selected students enrolled for their three-year course.
The programme is divided into three specialisations (cinematography, screenwriting, directing) with each discipline following a specific curriculum. During the admission procedure, we closely evaluate the applicants’ talents and abilities for the chosen specialisation, so please pay close attention to the requirements for the procedure, which are binding upon all applicants and can be obtained here.
The three-year follow-up Master´s programme is very intensive hands-on and theoretical preparation from the very beginning, as the students learn how to work with a DVCam, HD and DigiBeta while adopting a professional approach to the 16mm and 35mm film formats both on location and in the studio, and taking a number of compulsory courses based on their specialisation, complemented with suitable optional subjects, workshops, and a number of ad-hoc modules – short intensive courses taught by guest professional artists, theorists, and visiting professors.
The intentionally low number of CDM students and the profile of the offered specialisation subjects guarantee a personalised approach of the professor to every single student. At the beginning, every student is assigned a tutor to help them with their studies and creation of their theoretical and practical work.
Find out more about the instruction in the gradually added annotations for the individual subjects here. We want to inspire our students and offer them as much as we can, so the number of the annotations is not final and we will relentlessly try to expand even further our offering of instruction.
As you can see the CDM offerings are substantial, and the entry requirements are set accordingly. Applicants are not required to hold a Bachelor’s Degree for a specialisation similar to the one that they intend to study; however, it is essential that they have predispositions for the specialisation as well as substantial experience supported by a portfolio, which is to be submitted during the admission procedure.
The tuition fee for 2011/2012 academic year is EUR 16,800.
If the tuition fee is not paid all at once, the first installment of EUR 8,800 needs to be paid before or on 1 August 2011.
The full amount must be paid before or on 28 February 2012. The tuition fee for each subsequent year shall be determined before or on 30 June.
